
Australian consultation responses show support for NHMRC managing Medical Research Future Fund
A possible merger between Australia’s two biggest health research funds must solve the “false economy” of partial funding and inefficiencies in distributing A$1.5 billion a year, a national review has been told.
In June, the Department of Health and Aged Care launched a review of the administration of the Medical Research Future Fund—which holds A$20bn and distributes around A$600 million a year—and the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Medical Research Endowment Account, which distributed around A$900m in grants in 2022.
